Homemade Apple Hand Pies

One of the autumn treats we’ve been enjoying the most this year are homemade apple hand pies. They are a portable treat! Hand pies can be packed along in the car, or on a picnic, and we even like them for breakfast. My recipe makes six apple hand pies, and it doesn’t take us long to eat them all. Making a batch or two is a great weekend activity for some fall family fun. And it’s especially fun to make some hand pies after visiting your local orchard. A great way to use up those apples!

I spent quite some time getting the pastry and the filling recipes just right, so the pastry has the right amount of cinnamon spice and sweetness, crunch and softness, and the filling is properly spiced and juicy. The Apple Hand Pie Kit includes my recipe, a pattern for cutting out perfectly-sized pastry circles to suit the amount of filling, six glassine bags for holding the hand pies, and six labels printed “Homemade Apple Hand Pie”. It’s everything you need to set you on your way to some fun with friends or family one autumn weekend.

Be sure to crimp the edges of the hand pie firmly with a fork, because you don’t want the filling to leak out when they’re baking. And carefully cut some slits in the top to vent the hand pie as it bakes. Your home is going to smell amazing!
